Mooch
Steve Mariucci fired as Lions head coach. I can't say I'm surprised. That team has too much talent to be this bad. But Mooch may have trouble finding a job next year - I don't see many openings coming this offseason. I wouldn't surprised to see Mike Martz out in St. Louis, Dom Capers is probably done in Houston, Norv Turner may be on the hot seat in Oakland, and Mike Mularkey might be in trouble, but it's only his second year on the job. Jim Haslett probably keeps his job due to the intangibles. So barring a surprise, there aren't many openings.

Yeah, according to the reporters in St. Louis, Martz is almost definitely going to be fired after this year. Next year is the last year of his contract, but he's said he would like to have a contract extension, which they don't sound interested in giving him, plus there were issues between him and Jay Zygmunt (if you haven't been following it, Zygmunt was originally a salary cap specialist, and was really good at that, but lately, he's fought with Martz over personnel issues, and probably other things. Well, and then there was Zygmunt's top assistant, who, after Bernie Miklasz (the columnist in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch) wrote about how there was a lot of backstabbing in the Rams front office, called and left a message on Bernie Miklasz's voice mail saying "Tell whoever your source was, I'm not a backstabber, I'm a f---ing throat slasher." And he's still there... Martz has also said he probably couldn't work with Zygmunt another year, and Zygmunt probably won't be fired. So even if they were already thinking of firing Martz before...it sounds like he wouldn't even want to come back for one more year under the Rams' terms.
I'm not sure that it would actually be a good thing for the Rams to fire Martz, but...I guess we'll see...
Hm, I'd think there would be a lot more. Earlier this season, the commentators were predicting up to ten vacancies in the off-season (there's an average of about six per year, and there were only three last year, so the ppendulum was due for a shift). Dick Vermeil is probably retiring (and Herm Edwards of the Jets has been rumored as his replacement), and others such as Mike Sherman and Mike Tice have been rumored near extinction (though Tice seems to have saved his job now).
Also, most of the intelligent commentators I've heard say that this is far more the fault of GM Matt Millen (who just got a 5-year extension) and horrible personnel decisions. (Three straight first-round WR picks, Joey Harrington, no support to speak of on the O-line, etc etc.)
